課程概述

The aim of this module is to introduce you to research methods for the Environmental Social Sciences, particularly focusing on climate change and sustainable development. This module will support IPCS’ students to develop essential skills for conducting research in the field of social sciences. It explores research methods in three parts: (1) research design, (2) research methods, and (3) action research. In part 1, students will learn how to design their research project with general principles. In part 2, we will dive into various research methods by critically reading current publications in Environmental Social Sciences. In part 3, students will explore how action research could bring social and climate justice to various stakeholders.

課程目標
1. Understanding a range of research methods and data collection techniques, such as in-depth interview, ethnographical work, historical archive, visual analysis, and action research
2. Tailoring research methods for the social studies of climate change
3. Practicing research methods through empirical studies
4. Reflecting on potential challenges that certain research methods might encounter in the field
